How to make a non stretch fabric bandeau top
Summer. Festivals. Fun. Hot. Bandeau top. For the young and lithe – wear as is. For the less lithe, or more mature, probably better worn with a slouchy tank top. Or under a kimono jacket. This top is great for pool and beach parties, for yoga and hot yoga and even under sparkly jacket for a balmy night out. It’s super easy to make. And great for using up left-over fabric. Here’s how to make this non stretch fabric bandeau top.
You need: –
- fabric
- matching colour thread
- unbendable elastic
- pins
- sewing scissors
- sewing machine
You do: –
Cut your bandeau as per the FREE sewing pattern. Adjust if your body is bigger or smaller than the size shown.
Measure around your chest for the length of your elastic.
Your elastic is shorter than your bandeau top.
You are going to have to pull at the elastic while you are sewing it so it fits. I find it useful to mark the halfway, quarterway and even 8ths points on both the fabric and elastic with pins so I don’t end up with uneven gathers.
Once you have sewn the elastic to the top and the bottom of your bandeau top. Fold over and hem.
Now fit your bandeau top around your chest with a bra if you plan to wear one. And pin two ends together. Also slip it on and off to make sure you can get it on and off.
Sew the sides together and that’s it. You’re ready for summer with a non stretch fabric bandeau top.
BTW, there is a FREE sewing pattern for the gathered midi skirt and a tutorial for the Amazonite choker necklace in the Galleries at the top of this page.
