Ruffle Dress
Let me start by saying this ruffle dress is not my pattern. I found it on a blog called Megan Nielsen. She calls it a – ruffle off the shoulder dress. And she has lovely step by step photos so do check out her blog.
You need: –
- the pattern – print from the website
- fabric
- matching colour thread
- pins
- sewing scissors
- sewing machine
You do:-
Print the pattern from the website.
Cut your ruffle dress pattern pieces from your fabric. I’m a UK dress size 10/12 and have included my measurements for this ruffle dress in the photo above. I used a 15mm seam allowance. It’s a loose fit dress.
Sew the sides of the ruffle dress and the sides of the ruffle.
Press the seams open and flat with an iron.
Then hem under the arms. You might have to snip to get the hems to lie flat. Press flat again.
Find the middle of the dress and the middle of the ruffle. Pin and then sew in place.
Now you want to create a casing for your elastic. Fold over and sew again creating a tube. Leave a small gap to insert elastic.
Measure around your shoulders with your elastic. You want the elastic not too tight but definitely not loose or the dress will fall down. Slide the elastic into your tube.
Hem the ruffle and the bottom of the dress. Give a final pressing with an iron. And your dress is done. I made this ruffle dress to wear to a wedding. The colour changed from emeral green to blue but my gorgeous neice has said I can wear my dress anyway.
I seldom pose for this blog. Can’t bear it. Feels totally awkward. And I don’t do glamour. But I took a pic of myself in this ruffle dress for a family member and here it is to show that I do wear my clothes.
Have a fabulous green week.
Greenie.
