Yoke Dress + FREE Pattern
I bought the most amazing dress at a charity shop some years ago and I LOVE it. The yoke was crocheted and the dress part was sewn onto the crocheted yoke. The dress was already second-hand and I’ve worn it so much the fabric is seriously thin in parts. I tried to recreate that dress here.
My mistake was to use two very different texture fabrics. I also underestimated how sheer the grey stripe fabric was. But it’s still a lovely light dress. The pattern is below. I am a UK dress size 10. You may have to adjust the pattern to fit yourself.
You need: –
- fabric
- matching colour thread
- sewing machine
- pins
- sewing scissors
- paper to make pattern
- tape measure.
You do: –
First make your pattern. See above. Then cut your pattern pieces.
Find the mid point on your yoke and snip down about 3 centimetres at the back and more in the front if you want
a deeper neckline. Snip as you go to make sure you don’t overdo.
Now gather the dress fabric and pin it to the yolk. Sew in place. Fold over edges to create shoulder and arm seam. Sew sides of dress.
I wasn’t happy with the way the shoulder fell as the yoke fabric was super firm so I cut it and re-sewed with a sloping shoulder.
Finish by hemming all around.
That’s it! More next week until then, have a great green week.
