FREE Sewing Patterns and Tutorials
Let’s talk a bit about FREE Sewing Patterns and Tutorials this week. Almost every week I roll out a FREE sewing pattern and/or tutorial for something I’ve made. I make a LOT of stuff. None of the things I make are difficult. I can do more complex sewing. Would never tackle tailoring, but I can follow a moderately complex sewing pattern. However, I don’t see the point. I’m impatient and if I want something, I want it now. Also difficult patterns are – well – difficult. Why complicate life?
By making my own things I know for sure they were not made in a sweat shop. It bothers me when I hear about hardships other people endure so I can shop at bargain prices. I can make a difference. And I choose to.
Another reason I sew and craft is to upcycle or recycle as much as possible. Have turned old sheets into a – duvet cover, an electric cord into a – bracelet, old curtains in a – jacket – and an old table cloth into a – kaftan. It is so satisfying giving something old a new lease on life.
By making your own clothes an accessories you have complete creative control of how you dress. You can make exactly what you want, in a colour you love, to fit your body and life-style. I love all shades of green. When blue or pink are in fashion – it’s not a problem. I can still make what I love – in green. If something gorgeous is trending, I don’t have to wait for it to finally appear in the shops. I can make it in a couple of hours and be bang on trend. And if fussy frills or ghastly prints happen to be the fashion of the moment I can choose shapes or prints to suit my tastes. And so can you with my FREE Sewing Patterns and Tutorials.
The final reason I sew is because I love it. My other half has made a fold-down table for our office for sutting patterns and fabric. I put on a podcasts or some music and set about making something I know I will love. This blog is not about me. People often ask where I bought something and I often say “I made it.”
In this blog I show how. I’m not going to pose in a million photos because I have no desire to do that. It would feel wrong. My aim with this blog is to hopefully convert a few people to make their own using one of the FREE Sewing Patterns and Tutorials available. And hopefully by doing so make the world a slightly better place.
Have great week.
Greenie.
