DIY Apron

DIY Apron

I made this particular DIY apron for a fancy dress party. My other half and I usually wear – these – aprons. And we wear them a lot since we’ve now added catering to our already busy lives – Vegan Pop Up Dining. What were we thinking?

It’s super duper easy to make. Here’s how: –

You need: –

  • fabric
  • matching colour thread
  • matching colour tape or bias binding, about  2 – 3 metres
  • sewing scissors
  • pins
  • sewing machine

You do: –

Make a pattern for your apron from old newspaper or, like I do, use the packaging from parcels. It should fit from just below your collar bone to just above your knee. And wrap around your hips and tummy, but not all the way around your body. Fold pattern in half lengthways and make sure it’s symetrical. Trim diagonally to allow your apron to fit under your arms. See picture below for how I shaped my apron. .

You can also cut pockets if you like.

Sew tape flat

Sew your tape flat. Next hem the top, the bottom and the sides of your apron, but NOT the bit that fits under your arms.

Sew tape into arm hem

Pin your tape to the underarm piece and fold over to make a hem that includes the tape. This will keep it in place. Fit your apron to make sure it’s not sitting too low or too high. Adjust if necessary before sewing tape in place.

That’s it! Apron done.

Have a great week.
