Frill Bottom Dress
This frill bottom dress came about as I had a piece of fabric I couldn’t quite work with. It was 150 centimeres wide and 107 centimetres long. Too short for a dress. If I made a top would have left-over fabric I couldn’t use. I’m loving all the frills going on so had a go at this dress. I would have preferred a wider frill with a bit more gather but I worked with what fabric I had. The pattern is below.
You need: –
- fabric
- matching colour thread
- measuring tape
- pins sewing scissors
- sewing machine
You do: –
Cut your fabric pieces for this dress. Sew along shoulders.
Sew the sides leaving appromimate 25 centimtres open from the shoulder down for your arm to fit through.
Hem around the V neck. Hem armholes.
Gather up the frill and ensure the gathers are evenly spaced along the length of your frill. Pin and hand sew frill to the bottom of your dress. Then machine sew in place. Sew lower hem at bottom of the frill.
Press the seams and hems.
Voila, a summery frill bottom dress.
The OBI belt is also a Greenie DIY. Find a link for that – here.
Have a great week.

I randomly found your blog the other day after getting excited of the idea of sewing my own clothes because I feel like there isn’t enough sustainable/ethical yet chic clothing brands in London. I love all of the pieces you’ve made and will definitely give it a go for the kimono jacket ! Keep it up 🙂 If I may ask, do you think you’d be able to show how to sew a wrap dress as this Spring/Summer it’s going to be be all about it?
Thank you xxx
Hi Mari
Thanks your input. Am happy to add a wrap dress to my list of things to try. Nice idea.
Good luck with your kimono jacket.
I LOVE mine.
All the best,
Greenie.
