Underwear Travel Bags
Have to be honest, I never thought about an underwear travel bag before. Never even seen such a thing. But on our last trip to the boat my other half and I could never find small items like knickers and socks in the cupboards. The idea was formed then. I made these His and Hers Underwear Travel Bags when we got back home. They have proved to be super useful in a full suitcase.
You need: –
- light coloured fabric for the bags roughly 48cms x 50cms
- contrast coloured fabric for the appliques
- matching thread for both fabrics
- sewing scissors
- sewing machine
You do: –
Cut your light coloured fabric roughly the same size as a tea towel or dish cloth. Cut one for each bag.
Next cut your applique pieces. I Googled underwear silhouettes for inspiration.
Cut out the applique pieces. One per bag, or if you make a bigger bag you can add both to one bag.
Pin and sew the applique pieces to the front of the underwear travel bag.
Sew sides, bottom and top casing.
I cut long thin strips to make a drawstring. About 7 centimetres x 60 centimetres. Fold in half longways. And then fold in again. Like bias binding tape. Sew the ends together. You could also buy tape or rope and skip this step.
Thread your draw string through the top casing of your bag. Make a knot at the end so it doesn’t untie.
And just like that you have a handy bag for your travels. You could make a peg bag, a bag for plastic shopping bags, children’s toys, whatever you need to store. The applique makes it easy to know what’s in your bag.
Have a fabulous green week.
Greenie.
This is a cute idea! I’ll definitely have to make some for my family’s upcoming trip. Thanks for the tutorial!
