How to make a Handbag Insert
I wasn’t planning on making a handbag insert but since Pinterest knows what I like by now, there are feeds of crafts popping up on my phone. One of which was a handbag insert made from place mats. I really need a handbag insert so I can organise the clutter in my bag. This wasn’t my idea to begin with. Please Google – Do it yourself Placemat Purse Organizer – to find the original tutorial. Not sure if place mats vary from country to country but I ended up with two place mats that were NEVER going to look anything like the tutorial. So I improvised.
You need: –
- 2 x place mats
- matching colour thread
- sewing machine
- sewing scissors
- sewing machine
- strong sewing machine needles
- strong glue
- pegs
You do: –
Fold the place mats as per the photo and pin in place. Sew each place mat down the middle with your sewing machine.
Bring the two place mats next to each other and sew the inner sides together.
And the sew the outer edges of the place mats together.
By now this handbag insert was so thick that I couldn’t sew the bottom edge on my sewing machine. So I glued the bottom with 2 part adhesive. And pegged it together while the glue dried. I will say this handbag insert certainly is robust.
I got carried away and made a second attempt at a handbag insert. Will share that shortly. In fact I’ve gone berzerk making all sorts of things. Am about to share pics on my Facebook page so you can see what’s coming up on Greenie Dresses for Less. Loads and loads of stuff.
Have a great green week.
Greenie.
