Vintage shirt and school tie

My model won’t get good marks for eco dressing today. Her only eco item is the vintage crimplene checked shirt. Love that shirt. So ’70’s, so out there, and clean over the top. I mixed it with a bone fide school tie, neutral coloured pullover and plain black pants. No accessories. The shirt is loud enough.

The overall feel starts to get a bit Vivienne Westwood. That whole era when she started out with Malcolm McLaren and opened the SEX shop was such a turning point in fashion history. An era when an anti establishment sentiment commenced. In some ways I think the backlash sentiment is more prevalent than ever today. Except it’s much less in your face and a lot more subtle. Eco fashion is about turning your back on unrelenting consumerism. The Sex Pistols wore tartan and checks to death. Ripped T-shirts and safety pins are all from that epoch.

And I love that Dame Westwood is advocating greener living. She recently suggested fashionistas wear a towel instead of a coat. See the Ecouterre web page for more. But what I love most about Ms Westwood is that she is ageless. Born in 1941, she feels no need to join the blue rinse brigade. She wears what she wants and she looks fabulous.
