Lace edged skirt

Adding lace trim to a skirt

I loved the neutral coloured lace trimmed shorts from Chloe a few seasons back. I see Erdem are doing similar shorts for Summer 2011 in black. There is lace in the aforementioned style. Sort of resort or preppy.

Then you get Gothic lace. I guess all this Twilight and vampire mania has got us going all black lace with blood red lips and nails.

I like both looks.

To give this old skirt a little update, I added a black cotton anglaise trim at the hem. If I wore tiny shorts, I would do the same for a new improved Erdem-ised pair of shorts. But I don’t, so I won’t. What I will do, and I will show it in another post, is add some lace to a soft belt. And I am going to try and make a lace flower to wear with a cardi. But … one recycle at a time.

Why do the fashion mags always feature red carpet looks? How many of us who buy these magazines actually have the slightest need for “old school glamour”? I wish they would feature more of the sort of clothes those of us who work, cook and clean can wear regularly. I am a lot more interested in regular garden variety work wear or weekend wear than what the latest diva wore to some function. And besides, how green is it to feature a dress that has been flown back and forth across continents for fittings? And then worn once!!!

The Greenie Galleries at the top of this page have 100s of photos of older and newer projects showing multiple ways to make your own clothing and accessories. There are also ideas to recycle or upcycle.

See you soon.
