Elasticated harem pants
In the picture is a much easier way to get the gathered effect of these Harem or Turkish pants.
Unpick the hem of your trousers slightly and slip in a piece of un-bendable elastic.
Make sure you measure the width of your elastic and allow a small bit extra to overlap. Hand stitch the two ends of elastic together and stitch the hem back closed.
I used this trick on longer trousers and I even managed to make a bubble skirt by slipping elastic into the hem of a skirt.
And the best bit … when this look is over, out comes the elastic and you can revert the skirt or trousers to their original style.
I used a safety pin to thread the elastic inside the cavity of the hem. But I did discover a fancy elastic threader at the fabric supply store recently which will be handy for narrow hems.
